Updated in the last hour

Overview

Getting paid should be the easiest part of your job! By connecting a Stripe account to your storefront, you can securely accept credit card payments from your customers directly at checkout. This means less time chasing down manual payments and more time baking.

Prerequisites

  • Your Bakeshop account is set up.

  • You know your standard business information (like your business address and structure).

  • You have your bank routing and account numbers ready so Stripe knows where to send your funds.

Step 1: Start your Stripe setup

Let’s navigate to the payment settings in your Bakeshop dashboard.

  1. From your Bakeshop dashboard, look for the "Welcome! Let's get your shop open" checklist in the bottom right corner.

  2. Click the pink Start Setup button under the "Get Paid" section.

  3. On the Payment Methods page, locate the "Stripe account setup" section at the bottom.

  4. Click the pink Set up with Stripe button. You will be redirected to Stripe’s secure setup portal.

Step 2: Create or link your account

Stripe is our trusted partner for handling all credit card transactions safely.

  1. Enter your Email address. If you already have a Stripe account, use the email associated with it. Click Continue.

  2. Select your Business location (e.g., United States).

  3. Select your Business type. Most home bakers without registered LLCs will select Individual.

  4. Click Continue.

Pro Tip: If you aren't sure about your business type, "Individual/Sole Proprietorship" is the most common starting point for home-based and cottage bakers!

Step 3: Enter your business details

Tell Stripe a little bit about what you do so they can verify your account.

  1. Business name: Enter your bakery's name.

  2. Industry: Click the dropdown and select the indsutry that most applies to your bakery and items you sell.

Pro Tip: If you aren't sure about your industry select Food and drink, then choose Other food and dining (or Caterers/Retail depending on your specific setup).

  3. Your website: Enter your unique Bakeshop storefront URL (e.g., https://your.bake.shop).

  4. Product description: Write a brief 1-2 sentence description of what you sell (e.g., "I sell custom decorated sugar cookies and cakes locally.").

Step 4: Set up your payouts

This is the most important step—telling Stripe where to send your hard-earned money!

  1. Add your Bank details (Routing and Account number) to link your checking or business account.

  2. Select your Payout schedule. You can choose to have your funds sent to your bank Automatically (e.g., every week on Monday) or Manual if you prefer to trigger the transfers yourself.

  3. Click Continue.

Step 5: Configure Tax (Optional)

Stripe offers a tool to help you monitor sales tax thresholds.

  1. Select your primary product type (e.g., Physical goods).

  2. Choose whether to Opt in to Stripe Tax or select Not right now if you handle your sales tax manually or via another method.

Step 6: Review and submit

You are almost done!

  1. Review all the details you provided, including your Business type, Professional details, and Public details.

  2. Ensure your Statement descriptor (what shows up on your customer's credit card bill) reflects your bakery name.

  3. Click the button at the bottom of the page to Agree and Submit.

Once submitted, you will be redirected back to your Bakeshop dashboard, and your Stripe account status will update to connected!
