Overview
Custom orders are the bread and butter for many bakers! Whether a customer wants a bespoke wedding cake, a large catering spread, or a dozen cookies with a highly specific theme, the Custom Order form lets them easily submit requests. This guide will show you how to enable a custom order button on your storefront and build a tailored form to collect all the details you need.
Prerequisites
Your Bakeshop storefront is active.
You have a general idea of the questions you want to ask your customers (like preferred flavors, themes, or allergy information).
Step 1: Access your custom order settings
Let's turn on the feature from your dashboard.
Navigate to your Bakeshop dashboard.
Click on Products in the left-hand menu, then select Custom Orders.
Step 2: Enable the form and invoice settings
First, we need to turn the feature on and set your default terms.
Toggle the switch labeled Enable Custom Orders so it turns pink (On).
Scroll down to the Invoice Settings section.
Select a default Pickup Address from the dropdown menu.
Enter your Terms & Conditions (e.g., "A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your date."). These will appear at the bottom of the invoices you send for these orders.
Step 3: Add your custom questions
Now, let's build the form your customers will fill out.
Under the "Questions" section, click the pink + Add Your First Question button (or the pink + icon in the top right).
Question Label: Type out what you want to ask the customer (e.g., "Cake Flavor" or "Special Instructions").
Check the Required Field box if the customer must answer this question to submit their request.
Step 4: Choose your question type
You can collect answers in a few different ways by clicking the Question Type dropdown.
Text Input: Great for open-ended answers, like a description of the party theme.
Dropdown: Perfect for giving customers a specific list of choices. Type an option (e.g., "Chocolate" or "Vanilla") in the Options box and click Add.
Surcharge: Use this if a specific choice costs extra (e.g., Gluten-Free base). Type the option name and enter the extra dollar amount in the Surcharge box.
File Upload: Allow customers to attach inspiration pictures or reference images!
Pro Tip: Keep your form as simple as possible! Bakeshop automatically collects the customer's Name, Email, Phone Number, Preferred Date, and a general description for you, so you only need to add questions for your specific baking needs.
Step 5: Save and Preview
Make sure your form looks perfect before it goes live.
Once you are happy with your questions, click the pink Save button.
Click the Preview Form button in the bottom right corner to see exactly what your customers will see on your storefront.
Your storefront will now feature a "Custom Order" button where customers can easily request your bespoke bakes!
